tips, program and list of detox foods

The detox diet is a restrictive diet that consists of consuming whole plants only or in the form of juice for 1 to 7 consecutive days. More than just losing weight, detoxification will detoxify the body and make you feel better. Attention detox is very controversial, you have to be careful.

Detox features:

  • Foods based on fruits, vegetables or juice

  • Duration from 1 to 7 consecutive days

  • Weight loss and detoxification of the body

  • Very restrictive diet

  • Unlimited lemon juice, water and tea

Basic principles of diet

There are not one, but several detox diets: with lemon, based on juice or even whole fruits and vegetables. This type of diet is intended to assist the organs in their purification functions in order to induce detoxification.

How Does The Diet With Lemon Detox Work?

“Detox” diets are available in various forms:

  • Variable duration: 1 to 7 days

  • Consumption of fruits only

  • Vegetable consumption only

  • Drinking or disturbed consumption

  • Vegetarian food

How does a flat stomach diet weaken you?

The detox diet promises to improve physical and mental well-being, increase energy levels, reduce cravings, improve sleep quality, radiant skin and strengthen the immune system. The detox diet compares the human body to the engine of a car that gets dirty over time, accumulating waste and toxins that can generate fatigue, dull complexion and hair, weakened immune systems, digestive problems, etc. The toxins come from the body itself, but also from the outside through pollution, drugs, smoking, alcohol and more. At some point, the body will not be able to remove all of this waste and therefore detoxification will be required. The liver, kidneys and intestines are the most targeted organs during detox treatment. By detoxifying these organs would become more efficient and metabolism more potent. As a result, we are more likely to burn calories.

It is important to mention that the human body and mainly the liver and kidneys are the key organs in treating body waste. Yes, the body produces waste, but it is taken care of by our organs and eliminated naturally. The liver is involved, among other things, in the formation of urea before its elimination from the body, in the metabolism and elimination of alcohol and drugs by means of the kidneys, in the breakdown of fatty acids, etc. The kidneys are then responsible for blood filtration and waste disposal. So there is no need to worry about the quality of our blood if the kidneys are working well.

How Long Does The Detox Diet Last?

The detox diet lasts between 1 and 7 days, it is not recommended to go beyond. In fact, this is, first and foremost, a very restrictive regime which, in the long run, can lead to significant disadvantages. There are many ways to practice it: several consecutive days, one day a week, etc.

Authorized foods

The foods or drinks to include on your detox day are usually:

  • Green tea

  • carrots

  • tomatoes

  • celery

  • artichoke

  • beets

  • Citrus fruits: lemon, orange, grapefruit

  • Red berries: blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, cranberries

  • Chlorophyll-rich foods: Asparagus, Dandelion, Avocado, Kiwi, Curry Cabbage, Watercress, Garlic, Juniper, Basil, Thyme, Parsley and more.

Usually, during this period, drink at least 1.5 liters of water per day. Some diets also recommend drinking in the morning, on an empty stomach, with freshly squeezed lemon or green tea throughout the day.

We recognize that foods offered during detoxification are foods containing significant amounts of antioxidants. Remember that antioxidants play a role in neutralizing the free radicals that damage the body. These free radicals are considered to be waste produced by the body itself, but they would also come from outside through burning smoke, chemicals, dust and more. These compounds with antioxidant properties are vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium and carotenoids. Therefore, perhaps for this reason, foods offered in detox medication are also most rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin E, selenium and carotenoids.

Prohibited foods

Prohibited foods during a detox diet are those that raise toxins in the body and “disrupt” the organs. Here is a non-exhaustive list:

  • Refined sugars

  • fat

  • a cigarette

  • alcohol

  • caffeine

  • Animal products: especially red meat and sometimes dairy products

  • Processed foods

Foods that should be avoided during detox diets, such as red meat or even alcohol, are the subject of scientific evidence proving their negative health effects. Therefore, it is perfectly normal to advise against their consumption on a daily basis, not just for a few days.

Recommendations and precautions

Are there any risks?

Although these medicines are often based on a large amount of vegetables and fruits, it is important to note that they are often too low in calories to reach the recommended intake of vitamins and minerals. The American College of Sports Medicine states that women should consume at least 1,200 calories per day and men should consume at least 1,800. In addition, a diet containing less than 1,600 calories per day does not seem to allow the recommended nutritional intake, mainly vitamin C, E, calcium and magnesium. Therefore, it is not recommended to follow this diet for several days. Most of the weight lost will be water because the body empties its glycogen stores. Finally, protein intake is very low (about 30 g / day), which also leads to muscle loss.

Is it a diet for you?

In general, and whatever your situation is, it is not recommended to practice the lemon diet or detox fruit juice for too long. On the other hand, a detox day can be a very good thing when the body requires it. For example, on the day after a large family meal, there is no harm in eating very lightly so that the organs can recover and clean.

Is a diet compatible with sports?

Yes, absolutely. This type of diet is not always practiced anyway. If it is better not to engage in intense activity on detox days, it is recommended that you exercise on other days. Physical activity helps the body eliminate toxins and slows down muscle loss caused by overly restrictive diets.

How not to gain weight after eating a fruit juice detox?

If the detox goes well, there is no reason to gain weight afterwards. It should also be understood that weight loss should not be the goal of a detox diet. This should not be done for more than two consecutive days and should be followed by a few days of light plant-based nutrition.

Dietician’s opinion on flat stomach diet

Detox diets are actually dramatic diets, very low in calories, and which lose a lot of water above all else. Substances called toxins are eliminated on a regular basis, but especially naturally by our body and in particular by the liver. No food or nutrient can act on the liver and help it function. The important thing is to eat a healthy diet every day, not to go on a detox diet several times a year for a day or two. On the other hand, a typical “detox” day can be practiced without danger when the body requires it after many generous meals, for example. The only important thing is to monitor your body at any time.
