For many years, calcium and dairy products have been shown to lose weight. Unfortunately, these promises are not supported by independent research that has shown that dairy products do not make you lose weight. On the other hand, vitamin D has long been suspected of having such potency.
To confirm this, Iranian researchers studied 77 overweight or obese women, with an average age of 38, who accidentally received either 1000 IU of vitamin D3 in the form of a dietary supplement or placebo for 12 weeks.
At the end of the study, the analysis of participants’ physical compositions showed that people who received vitamin D lost an average of 2.7 kilograms of body fat, while no significant change was observed in the placebo group. However, the overall weight of the participants did not change significantly, indicating that vitamin D contributed to the increase in lean mass (muscle and bone mass) at the same time as fat loss.
These new results confirm earlier that vitamin D could improve muscle strength and make you lose weight as part of an exercise program.
